Federal Law Enforcement Fitness Plan

Federal LE fitness standards are significantly more demanding than state LE. Pull-ups are tested. The FBI scores every event. CBP uses a 2-minute window. USSS is among the most competitive in public safety.

Pull-ups are required. FBI, CBP, and many other federal agencies test pull-ups. If you cannot do pull-ups, start training them immediately β€” progress is slow.

FBI

Events Tested

  • β†’ Sit-ups (60 sec)
  • β†’ Push-ups (untimed, max consecutive)
  • β†’ 300m sprint
  • β†’ 1.5-mile run

Standards

Minimum: 12 total points minimum (3 per event average)

Target: 40+ total points

FBI push-ups are untimed β€” max consecutive reps without stopping. Different from most agencies. Aim for 65+ consecutive.

CBP

CBP Border Patrol

Events Tested

  • β†’ Push-ups (2 min)
  • β†’ Sit-ups (2 min)
  • β†’ Pull-ups
  • β†’ 1.5-mile run

Standards

Minimum: Level 1 on all events

Target: Level 3+ (affects assignment options)

CBP uses 2-minute windows (not 1 min like most agencies). Pace differently β€” volume over speed.

USSS

USSS

Events Tested

  • β†’ Push-ups (60 sec)
  • β†’ Sit-ups (60 sec)
  • β†’ 1.5-mile run
  • β†’ Additional events at assessment

Standards

DEA

DEA

Events Tested

  • β†’ Push-ups (60 sec)
  • β†’ Sit-ups (60 sec)
  • β†’ 1.5-mile run

Standards

Target: 60th+ percentile

DEA Special Agent fitness testing occurs during the hiring process and must be passed for academy entry.

FBI PFT Scoring Guide

The FBI scores each event 1–10. Minimum total is 12 (3 avg per event). Score of 40 (10 per event) is the max. Here are sample targets for males age 20-29:

Key Training Tips for Federal LE

Pull-Ups From Day 1

Pull-ups take weeks to months to build from zero. If you can't do pull-ups, start with negative pull-ups (jump to the top, lower yourself slowly) from day one. Do them every training day.

The FBI Push-Up Is Untimed

FBI push-ups test max consecutive reps β€” not reps in 60 seconds like most agencies. This rewards muscular endurance. Train with slow-cadence, high-rep sets. Aim for 65+ consecutive before your test.

Know Your FBI Score Targets by Age

FBI PFT scoring tables are age-graded in 5-year increments. Know your exact bracket and what rep counts earn each point score. Don't train to someone else's number.

Train Is More Demanding Than the Test

The FBI New Agent Training at Quantico is significantly more physically demanding than the entry PFT. Candidates who arrive at minimum fitness struggle. Target Quantico-ready fitness, not just minimum-pass fitness.
